Tamika Ayers is an early childhood professional who started Mini Scientist Academy in 2016. She uses her extensive background in science to help children gain an educational advantage by introducing them to S.T.E.A.M. based learning during their most impressionable years.
In high school, Tamika worked with the non-for-profit organization, “Project Exploration’, as a junior paleontologist. This program aims to introduce underrepresented students to the wonder and discovery of S.T.E.A.M. Working with Project Exploration afforded Tamkia a great opportunity of working at the Chicago Field Museum during summers and weekends. It was here that her passion for Science was ignited. Tamika attended Jarvis Christian College in Tyler, Texas, and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her studies, she participated in several national paleontological expeditions searching for fossils and collecting samples and completed fieldwork projects in Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming. Tamika is a product of the public system. It is aware of the gaps in preparing today’s youth for our technologically advanced world where there’s an increasing demand for S.T.E.A.M-related careers. Introducing children to hands-on activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Math during the early stages of life, the Mini Scientist Academy curriculum creates a solid foundation for learning and teaches critical thinking skills while instilling a passion for innovation. Her motto is, “When science is in your D.N.A., every day is an Adventure.” Along with educational activities and science experiments, she provides a loving and safe environment for every child in her care. She is married to her husband and real estate broker and owner of Wendy Leigh & Co.Rodney Ayers. Together they have three daughters: Emori, Eva, and Ensley.
